Selecting the best barrel length for the 300BLK 7″ BARREL HB can be a double-edged sword. At 10-inches, muzzle velocity hasn’t contacted its peak. Heavy, subsonic ammo in a 10-inch barrel experiences low rates. The tradeoff is the ability not to damage your hearing while using a suppressor.

Regardless of the ammo type, the 16-inch barrel generates more devastating energy on impact. The barrel twist rate is also essential. When picking barrel length and the 300 Blackout effective range with your rifle, it’s another factor. The lightweight supersonic rounds benefit from a 1:8 twist.

The kissing cousins compare twins at a distance, but the similarities end at the projectile girth. But the 7″ 300 BLK Honey Badger® is 0.30 inches in diameter (7.62 mm), and the .223 Rem (5.56 mm) is 0.224 inches. Buy Smith & Wesson Model 69 Revolver 44 Remington Magnum online.

Awesome rifle, fun to shoot, works with all my mags, pretty darn accurate, and very soft shooter with the 74 style brake. Now the downside; stock was way to short for an american, ended up getting an arsenal polymer stock nato spec. Firing pin failed after 500 rounds, back of the pin deformed and i kept getting light primer strikes. Put a stainless steel firing pin in it, solved the problem. Other than that, I love this thing. I put an ALG trigger in it, thats a must!, a new grip, the included grip looked good but was a bit too small for my hand, and to top it off, a cheese grater upper handgaurd, purely for aesthetics!.

The first ten to fifteen shots were excellent and on target, then the trigger malfunctioned or broke and the rifle became a one shot then jam on it. So now I have a broken trigger less than one mag. It really shot great though. Now I have to fix the trigger, not exactly what I wanted out of an ak47 btw.

    Great rifle excellent quality!
Great rifle excellent quality just like my arsenals

Decent buy just for the barrel and receiver and the trunions. If you get one, tear off the rear stock and fore end…throw in the trash or sell for $25000 on Gunbroker. Then take out the two trigger pins and remove the trigger assembly and either throw it out or sell it on Gunbroker for $15000. Then buy a Magpul AKM fore end and an M4 tube converter and the cheapest M4 buffer tube, castle nut and end plate you can find and install…..then get the highest level of ALG trigger you can find (the UL is surreal) and install, mess with supplied pin til the safety works and it operates with a functional safety. Then go out and shoot no more than 2″ groups at 100 yards all day using just about any ammo other than Tula or old mil surp corrosive ammo, especially Chinese. If you can find a completed barreled upper I would go that route so you wont have to bone as many people on Gunbroker like every other seller on that auctionsite does

The fit and finish are good and I have had no reliability issues. This is a 3/5 because the rifle came without a front sight. PSA eventually sent me a front sight but I still needed to get an installation tool to properly sight in the rifle. It’s really just a silly mistake that shouldn’t pass QC which is all the stranger considering the rifle had a signed slip saying it had been inspected for quality assurance…

Not a clone, more of a lookalike, but it’s a shooter.
Solid rifle, runs good, shoots straight, the front sight wasn’t canted very much, finish is fine.

The GREAT? The barrel. The problems? It seems that no one at PSA seems to read reviews or pays attention to the returns due to failed firing pins. My son in law bought a 103 after viewing Robski run the hell out of one he had and just before he finished off a case of 500 Wolf Poly FMJ some FTF issues cropped up. Field stripped the rifle, inspected the bolt and found that there was mushrooming at both ends of the firing pin. Ive owned AK variants from…..5 countries and after having to use a shovel to remove spent steel cases from where I generally shoot on more than one occasion I have yet to see a foreign made simple firing pin wear down to the point where they wont ignite even former com bloc steel cased ammo with their supposed hard primers.
Nobody with the Kalashnikovs are complaining about poor quality firing pins so perhaps PSA should look to a different Chinese supplier when purchasing their next lot of firing pins. By the way two of my AK’s have Chinese heritage and though they are old………..no problems with firing pins after untold thousands of rounds.
C’mon PSA, listen to your customers.

The best made new production AK on the market now. Straightness held true of all components from lower to front trunion down the populated barrel. Serialized components makes it even better. THANKS! Smooth transaction and shipping. No issues. An excellent AK.

The magazine lever was to long making the gun very picky about what kind of mags it takes from Pmags from surplus mags from circle 10 mags to new metal mags, lust a little bit of work with a file and all of my mags seat into the gun, the gun is awesome and is a great shooter cycles great and is very accurate right out of the box, just check magazine fitment before you go to the range with all your mags. I love these Palmetto AK’s

This is one of the best AK’s on the market currently. It has phenomenal build quality and parts, and it fires excellently and accurately. I’ve shot and owned many AK’s, and i’ve owned 3 Palmetto State AK’s. Since moving to the forged everything, they genuinely are some of the highest quality AK’s you can buy, and the 103 is the best offering on their lineup. All of these wonderful things being said, FIX THE FIREING PINS. An mil-spec ss AK firing pin for a consumer is $10 on the internet, and if you passed that exact cost to the customer, it would solve the only issue plaguing this, and all other PSA AK rifles. This has been an issue for a few years now, and does not seem to be addressed in anyway other than sending the rifle back, only to receive what can be assumed is the same firing pin, only new. This has happened on 2 AK’s that i personally have owned, and is as simple as either ordering the part from a 3rd party company, or adjusting the process for how they’re made. Its sad that i cannot give what in my opinion is the best American made AK on the market a 5 star review, but when it comes to a $10 part that affects all of your rifles, it feels like a corner cutting oversight. I recommend purchasing a 3rd party, well reviewed firing pin upon the purchase of any AK from PSA, though consider that this fix to their problem will void your warranty.

Construction is super solid, runs smooth, and very reliable. I will say that I’m pretty sure my rear sight block is canted because when dropping in the SLR gas tube (which is smaller than stock gas tube) I was getting friction so bad it was failing to feed. Also the brake was a little too wobbly (yes even for an AK) but a file fixed that. Ordered a Gf3 bolt and everything works fine as far as the rear sight block. Probably sitting at 1500 rounds and rivets are holding strong, front trunnion is good, and not seeing any sign of excessive wear on the rear trunnion (which a lot of redditors will moan about in regards to PSA AKs). Don’t let a low price fool you just because of the stigma associated with that. Customer service is also great if you do have a QC issue ( contact was made about the rear gas block very quickly, fixed with out sending it in anyways). Very confident this thing will run good for a long time.

Just what I was looking for
Well made, reliable, fun to shoot! I later mounted a Zhukov stock and Bushnell TRS-25 red dot optic. Very satisfied.

  14. Roy (verified owner)

Rifle looks and runs great with no malfunctions. My only gripe is that the gas tube lever was very loose.

This is my first AK47/7.62×39 chambered rifle and so far I’m liking it (I’ve only put 50 rounds thru it). I liked the idea of the FN barrel and compensator and that was a major part of purchasing this rifle over other AK’s. Build quality is good and no complaints there. The grip and stock are very basic and I have upgraded them with Magpul items. The trigger has a lot of gritty slack before firing and DEFINITELY needs upgraded to help with accuracy. To me the trigger is the biggest disappointment compared to price paid. Again, I’ve only put 50 rounds thru it at 45 meters but it put them all in a 12” circle and I think that’s pretty good right out of the box with iron sights. I believe with a better trigger, getting it sighted in at 100 meters and more range time it will be a good, dependable service rifle. Plus, it spits out steel cased ammo without breaking extractors and that may be crucial come 2030.

I added the PSAK red wood furniture, a Hogue grip and a Romeo 5. I only have about 300 rounds of steel cased ammo through it so far, but no issues. It’s my first and only AK and I’m really happy with it, PSA did a fantastic job!

  17. Cole T (verified owner)

I cant say enough good things about this rifle you wont be disappointed. I have had it for over a year now and it has about 1200 rnds through it, not a single malfunction.

  18. John (verified owner)

As an older man I wanted a rifle I could handle. The PSA AK 103 is a smooth shooter with little if any felt recoil. A friend visiting from California loved it and said that he wanted to move to Oregon so that he could own one. (Are Californian laws that bad?) If anyone wants to shoot 7.62 x 39 you should try out the PSA AK 103.

  19. Daniel (verified owner)

    Reliable
I’ve put over 500 rounds of Tula through it and it runs like a champ.

Fantastic but difficult to find side rail scope mount
Haven’t shot it yet but it feels so solid. Although the side rail mount that I bought didn’t fit. I wish they were more descriptive on what can attach to the side rail because it’s not standard Ak47 …

  21. Albert H (verified owner)

Best American made AK ever. I’ve shot and owned many AK’s over the years, 3 of which were PSA. The PSA 103 is easily the highest quality, nicest shooting, and most accurate American AK I’ve ever shot, and I am glad that I own one. That being said, having failures due to a $10 firing pin, which is an issue with ALL PSA AK’s (i’ve had 2/3 have firing pin issues within 1000 rounds) is unacceptable on a $1000 rifle. This has been a problem for PSA for a few years, and at this point, I’m unsure as to why they haven’t simply decided to outsource the part. On top of this, fixing the problem yourself (which is what I would recommend, given that sending it to PSA just gives you a “new” faulty firing pin, and will take weeks due to shipping) will void your warranty (as I was told by PSA customer support), so either fix this very small issue, or adjust your warranty policy to allow me to fix it for you. Very sad I can’t give what is my second favorite AK I’ve ever owned a 5 star review, but if a beat up wasr doesn’t have firing pin issues, my $1000 basically new rifle shouldn’t either.

My first AK and I couldn’t be happier. Its lived up to all my expectations. Keep up the great work.
